Pool Rules and Code of Conduct

All members and guests must obey the lifeguards at all times

Membership can be revoked for any behavior, action or words that go against the Rules, Code of Conduct, or are in conflict with the teachings of the New Church.

Unaccompanied Children and Babysitter Policy

Members out of 5th grade and up (with white tags – see below) are allowed to come to the pool unaccompanied by an adult or guardian. Non-member babysitters (8th grade and up) are allowed to come for free only in place of parents. Limit one free babysitter per family.

Signing In

All members required to sign in at the pool guard house when arriving. Guests and babysitters must sign in as well.

White Tags

White tags are required by swimmers under 6th grade in order to swim unaccompanied in the deep end of the pool. After three consecutive years of passing the test, a white tag is no longer required. Parents may chaperone their children in the deep end with permission from the lifeguards.

They are awarded to swimmers who have passed the required test offered by the pool managers. The skills tested include holding your breath, treading water, touching the bottom of the deep end, and safe and courteous pool behavior.

Children with white tags may not use the baby pool.

NEW: Parents who wish to watch their non-white tag child in the deep end must ask permission from the lifeguard and then sit at the edge of the pool, ready at all times to jump in to assist their child.

Smoking and Alcohol

The Swim Club does not permit smoking on the premises, including e-cigarettes. Possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages is also not permitted.

Language

Any use of foul or abusive language is not permitted. We also ask you to refrain from taking the name of the Lord in vain.

Safety Check

You may not drive down to the swim club to drop off or pick up your swimmers. There is always and uptick in drivers using this road at the beginning of the season and this road is not for Swim Club use.

Do not drive down to the swim club unless you are unloading something that is impossible to carry down. You are not allowed to pick up your children at the door. Children should be picked up from the upper parking lot.

Parking is not allowed at the Scout Building and the speed limit on the access road is 5mph.

EXAMPLE: See below this very large box truck trying to navigate the narrow road. This is why you must walk on the path and you may not drive on this road. Walking along the access road is forbidden; all pedestrians must use the path.

You must always use the pedestrian path when walking down to the swim club from the Asplundh Field House parking lot.

None of this land is property of Bryn Athyn Swim Club; the parking lot and access roads are owned by ANC and they are gracious enough to allow us to use them.

Code of Conduct Agreement (children out of 5th grade through age 17)

We take pool safety seriously. Last year, we had instances of behavior problems at the pool with pre-teens and teens, primarily ignoring lifeguards’ requests, language, trash, and bullying. The managers and lifeguards are there to keep a safe and orderly environment; to do that, they need everyone’s cooperation. To make sure that children who are eligible to come to the pool alone know the rules and the consequences if rules are not followed, we are requiring the following for all children who are eligible to come to the pool alone (completed 5th grade in June through age 17):

  • Children completing 5th grade in June must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for one week before being allowed to come to the pool alone.
  • Children completing 5th grade in June must pass their white tag test prior to coming alone.
  • All children completing 5th grade through age 17 and a parent must sign the Code of Conduct Agreement prior to being able to come to the pool alone. Once the signed agreement is received, the membership card at the guard house will reflect the receipt of the signed copy. Without this form being signed, the eligible child cannot attend the pool without a parent.

Prior to the pool opening, this form can be downloaded, signed, and emailed back to membership@brynathynswimclub.org. May 27 (opening day) and after, the form can be brought to the pool.
